Meme: 8 Random Things About Me

I was tagged by KnittyMuggins for the 8 Random Things meme. Something like a month ago. But I've been blognasticating.

The Rules:
Once tagged, you must link to the person who tagged you. Then post the rules before your list, and list 8 random things about yourself. At the end of the post, you must tag and link to 8 other people, visit their sites, and leave a comment letting them know they’ve been tagged.

1. I love my husband, but daydream every day about how my life would be different if I left him for..... that guy. No, that one. No, that one over there.

2. I'm still think in terms of what I'm going to be when I grow up.

3. I like the smell of wet dog. But only my wet dog.

4. Sometimes I secretly suspect that I'm really not actually a very nice person, I'm just a bitch who likes the graciousness of making a nice gesture. But then I figure making the effort is half the battle, and hey - it's not like I kick puppies. Just idiots.

5. I curse like a sailor.

6. I have donated eggs to three couples with infertility problems.

7. My father wanted to name me Fifi. Or Ruth.

8. I sometimes act out books (facial expressions, hand gestures) while I'm reading them.

Thank goodness this meme is only 8 random things, or I may have had to delve even deeper into my embarrassing personal revelations.

Adventures in Cooking

Okay, major extra credit points for anyone who can tell me what this is:

Guess What?

DH calls me at work and says "what do you say if for dinner tonight we have banana something?" And I'm thinking "pregnant much?" But it turns out that - amazingly enough, THAT is a banana flower. (Which I didn't even know existed until it sprouted from the bunch of bananas on the dwarf banana tree in my front yard.)

Not So Dwarf Bananas

DH was gazing proudly at his banana bunch when a neighbor wandered by and said "hey the bananas won't grow unless you cut that flower off" So he did. Then she said "you know, you can eat that." And really - at this point, if I'm him, I'd be like Uh... No.

Because it looks like this:

Yummy

But some Googling later, we find out you can, indeed, eat banana flowers. And some people (seemingly mainly in eastern asian countries) do, rather frequently. So I print out an article for what translates into "Stir-Fry Banana Blossom" and start cutting.
The first cut is the deepest

It's basically the banana flower quartered, sliced into thin strips and then tossed with onion, curry leaf, tumeric, mustard seeds and salt. I woked it up
Yan Can Cook! and voila - there it was.

Confession: My palate is so not sophisticated enough for this. But we did toss some teriyaki on it, and everyone pronounced it a huge success.

Sorry for the crap picture - I was just dishing it up, not plating

I am a Sexy Knitting Editor

Check it, my knitting sistahs: You are looking at the new Executive Editor of the soon-to-be awesomely debuted Sexy Knitters Club newsletter. (Don't I sound official?) I am so... super excited. We've already had several volunteers offer to help with the newsletter, and Jeanie and I seem to be gelling on the same page pretty easily, so I can't wait to sink my teeth in to this project.

It's coming at a good time. Thanks to the magic of Ravelry, I'm realizing 1) that I miss my crafy side that has lain dormant in favor of work and 2) that I am a sexy knitter at heart. Everything in my queue has that zha-zha-zhoo to it. I've also discovered that I am a big Mari Lynn Patrick fan. Five of my (eeek) 28 queued projects were her designs. When I Googled her, I was surprised to find some fairly negative comments coming up, but you know - whatever! - I think sexy is doing what you feel good in, not what others judge to be right.

If you're an SKC fan - or would like to be - be sure to sign up for the newsletter.

The new KALs (starting 10/15) are both from Zephyr Girls - Tree Jacket and Juliet. Be sure to visit SKC for ideas on mods, yarn suggestions and photos of sexy knitters (already completed!) sweaters! I'll be posting newsletter updates and requests for submissions on the SKC blog.

Fall Season, End

Rounding out the week, we have:

Brothers and Sisters
You know what I hate? When they cliff-hang you with a possible death (hellooo Desperate Housewives, CSI, CSI again) cuz that hasn't been done lately. If you're going to kill someone off, you go all Shield on his ass and just do it. You know what I hate even more? When they then insist on showing you what looks like proof of the death ... Edie's toes, Jorja Fox floating away, oh yeah... the 21 gun salute and folded flag that may - or may not - accompany Justin's body home next week. You know what I hate even more than that? When they find some coy f***ing way of explaining away the death, so they don't have to actually kill the person off. (hellooo Marc Cherry?). Nonetheless, I love me my Walkers. Except I'm not sure why Rebecca would move into Kitty's room instead of taking the open guest room that Kitty is now camped out in. Seriously other than a cheap excuse for writing in some conflict, it doesn't make sense.

I still have a hot date with Tivo before I can catch up on the missing pieces from the new fall season:
  • Dirty Sexy Money
  • Gossip Girl
  • Desperate Housewives (I did watch the first five minutes, hence my Edie rant.)
